TATONKA shows what it's made of!
If you're interested in facts and figures, this is what we offer you for
Expedition Life: 1,280,000 individual products made from a total of 1,214,862
m2 fabric (football fans may be interested to know that that is enough to
cover 147 football pitches) and 4.7 million metres of waistband (trekkers
may be interested to know that that's the distance from Lisbon to the North
Pole - don't forget to take warm clothing!), available from some 4000 retail
outlets all over the world.
And what's behind these figures? People - a total of 980 of them, all over
the world. Most are at our facility in Vietnam, where they develop and manufacture
our products. Our experts in high quality hand manufacture have been here
since 1989, in case you're interested.
And before you can take a Tatonka product on an adventure with you, it will
have undergone a number of quality checks. Quality isn't just a word we
bandy around - it's a promise.
The first checks looks for weaving and cutting faults in the fabrics. The
seams are constantly finished off and checked throughout the various stages.
The last check is called the "final inspection":
Every product is cleaned and inspected; tents are even put up and taken
down. Only then is the product given its own serial number which is also
its quality seal. We keep records of these numbers so we can trace the item's
route to you - its Expedition Life, if you like. Before packing, we again
check the product's functions and label it.
