Enjoy a snack on one of the many picnic sites, relax on the forest “furniture” and take pleasure in the splendid views: The Rothaarsteig really is a “route for all the senses”. Over 150 kilometers and 3000 meters high, it leads over the ridge of the Rothaar mountain range and attracts ramblers with its exciting walks in breathtaking scenery.
The Rothaarsteig offers a number of well signposted and varied rambling routes through the Rothaar mountains, one of Germany’s most forested mountain range regions where outdoor fans can ramble along the signposted paths from Brilon in Sauerland over Wittgenstein Bergland and Siegerland to Dillenburg at the foot of the Westerwald – passing points along the route with spectacular views, individually designed forest furniture, pleasant picnic sites, information display charts and much, much more.
Rambling enjoyment for all the senses
When it came into being in 2001, the Rothaarsteig became the first certified premium hiking trail in Germany amongst the “Top Trails of Germany”. In the north it leads through dense forests with numerous spectacular viewing points and to the south the rambler crosses open meadowland. The Rothaarsteig leads past Bürgerwald Brilon, which after storm damage of Hurricane Kyrill (2007) has now been replanted, over the Niedersfelder High Plain Heath and the hanging bridge in Kühhude to the impressive Feuereiche. At the end of the Rothaarsteig is the attractive Old town of Dillenburg with its narrow streets and historic half-timbered houses.
The plus point in your outdoor experience
As well as varied and well sign-posted routes the Rothaarsteig offers many more attractive features for ramblers: Along the route, six Rangers from the District Administration Authority answer all your questions; they also organize guided adventure-walking tours and are responsible for nature preservation. In the accommodation identified by the characteristic red and white Rothaarsteig logo, ramblers are especially well looked after – in some of them rucksacks or other outdoor equipment can be hired. In its Online-Shop too, the Rothaarsteig sells professional rambling equipment – for six years now, TATONKA as a competent cooperation partner has produced a small collection of rambler’s backpacks and other related products and which also all carry the Rothaarsteig logo: Robust map covers, travel kits, daypacks and much more round off the outdoor equipment offer of practical and comfortable items.
The selected Rothaarsteig products can of course be found in our current TATONKA collection to accompany outdoor fans on all their tours.
