Some of our popular classics appear in new colors in the autumn & winter collection: for example, the long-running favorite, Tabara W’s Coat, a protective winter coat with feminine cut in waterproof and breathable T-HardShell Casual 2L, which protects the wearer in all weather whilst still looking stylish throughout the cold season.
Comfortably dressed with optimal layers in the “onion principle”
For moving around in the open air and at cooler temperatures the best thing is proven to be the onion principle: Several layers of clothes keep the body dry and warm. The outer layer protects against rain and snow, the inner layer takes up perspiration and keeps you warm. In autumn and winter you need to plan well for your excursions out in the open – especially where clothes are concerned.
First layer: Comfortable, functional underwear
Functional underwear fits agreeably to the body, keeps it warm and takes perspiration away from the skin. It is made of micro-fiber fabrics or natural fibers such as fine Merino wool. Top quality functional underwear does not prevent perspiration but takes the dampness away from the skin, ensuring a high level of comfort for the wearer. A combination of single-ply knitted fabric and a second layer of absorbent material have proven their worth over the years. Cotton is not suitable as a material for functional underwear because it cannot transport moisture.
Second layer: Insulation and warmth
The middle layer insulates and prevents heat loss. It transports moisture from the inside to the outside layer. Fleece materials are especially suitable for the second layer. They dry quickly, are lightweight, breathable and provide good insulation. Pullovers, vests and jackets in fleece can be combined to suit the weather.
As the warming and insulating middle layer, TATONKA offers simple, comfortable
and versatile pullovers and jackets in T-Tecnopile Micro 100, a very lightweight polyester fleece that keeps the wearer comfortably warm. The models Altona W’s Jacket and Anjou W’s Pullover offer female outdoor enthusiasts optimum wearing comfort with freedom of movement; Margou W’s Jacket and Odda W’s Jacket feel especially soft to the skin, feminine-cut jackets in silky-soft but highly insulating T-Fleece Highloft. Third layer: Weather protection
The outer layer of clothing must be hard-wearing and keep out the wind and rain, impermeable for drops of water. This is ensured by membranes or finishes inside of the top material. Membranes are of higher quality and are more endurable than finishes as they are more abrasion-proof and more breathable. Although the outer layer of clothing is water-resistant or waterproof, at the same time it transports body moisture to the outside. This property is general known as “breathing activity” but it would be more correct to call it vapor permeability. As well as the “Hardshells” waterproof jackets, these claims are being met more and more by “Softshell” clothing. The material is lightweight, soft and stretchable.
TATONKA has a special highlight in the expanded high-end series EXPedition: With the three-layer Berg Jacket, outdoor enthusiasts have the ideally reliable must-have for seasons of wind, snow and rain. A feature of the Berg Jacket is a removable snow guard and with its adjustable hood and raised chin section, it provides optimum protection against wind, ice, rain and snow. For particularly ambitious outdoor activities, TATONKA has developed the highly functional hard-shell Coban Jacket, characterized by its snow guard.
