With fantastic open spaces, spectacular scenery and delightful contrasts, Iceland is a dream destination for extensive walking and trekking tours. Far removed from the hectic of life in European cities, here you can discover the fascination of calm and quiet and being at one with nature – an experience that will stay with you for a long, long time.
Iceland is also known as the island of fire and ice: Glaciers in fact cover around ten percent of the world’s largest volcanic island, with its unique and diverse landscapes that positively invite you to long route marches. Bays of black sand, craggy volcanoes, imposing waterfalls – the charm of this island is also created by the impressive contrasts, from the barrenness which is at the same time its wealth.
With TATONKA on tour
At the beginning of June Miriam Maurer, our colleague at the Tatonka specialist shop “Basislager” in Karlsruhe, will set off with the travel company “special adventure” on an exciting round trip of this fascinating volcanic island. TATONKA will of course equip this passionate outdoor fan with all the gear. We will report later about all her adventures.
Unforgettable journeys in a magical country
Miriam can expect exciting contrasts: She will visit the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal hot water basin in the middle of a lava bed and also pay a visit to a colony of puffins. The route is via gravel slopes, fields of boulders and black sand beaches through barren wasteland up to the mountain summits and passes with breathtaking panorama views. The highlight of this eleven day tour is the climb up to the summit of volcanic glacier Snæfellsjökull. The beauty of this 1450 meter high mountain has also been honored in world literature: In his adventure novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, Jules Verne located the entrance to the underworld as directly below the Snæfellsjökull – and not only mystics speak of the very special energy and magnetic attraction of this imposing volcano.
