Compact ventilation talent Skill 30 convincing in the “Bergleben” Test

Skill 30 is ideal on active day tours with little baggage: It sits firmly and comfortably on the back and with its innovative X Vent Zero carrying system ensures optimum ventilation. Bergleben.de has tested the lightweight front-loader and examined it for carrying properties and comfort.

Bergleben Test Report:

“The Tatonka Skill 30 was one of the highlights of the last Outdoor where this extra lightweight was launched onto the market for day rucksacks. We went on tour with the Skill 30 and put its features to the test.

What the editors say:

Our attention was drawn to the Tatonka Skill 30 when it was introduced to the market for lighter and smaller day rucksacks with some promising characteristics: It is well fitted out and still lightweight. Our grass green test model (Skill 30 is also available in red, blue and black) was examined thoroughly the moment we received it.

First of all, the rucksack really is extremely light and we weighed it including the rain cover supplied with it at 990 gram. As we could deduct 100 gram for the rain cover, that leaves the rucksack itself weighing less than 900 gram – a very good value. The workmanship on our test model could not be faulted: All seams and the waterproof-glue zip fastenings are top class, and even after several tours we did not discern any relevant signs of wear and tear.

Carrying system and ventilation:

X Vent Zero is the name of the system that “keeps your back free” and distributes the load in the Tatonka Skill 30. Two fiberglass rods are across your back in X-form. As a result there is hardly any contact to your back, ventilation is good and even a very high load can be carried comfortably with distribution of weight and good absorption properties. Even when fully packed, theSkill 30 proved to be a “featherweight” on the back that could be carried easily for a longer time. The testers had no problems of size adjustment - all in all a huge plus point for Skill 30

Packing:

This design, however, has a disadvantage: Skill 30 is not exactly a space saving miracle and probably never intends to be. Bulky items such as a reflex camera can cause a problem because the main stowing compartment follows the ergonomically form of the X Vent-fiberglass rods. For jackets, rain trousers etc., this is not a problem, but a normal bag of bread rolls must expect to be squashed! Also, quick access to the main body by means of a zip fastener is not ideal. As well as the main stowing areas there is also a detachable bottom compartment and under the top flap there is another zip-fastened section with key holders. Fans of lots of small pockets may not like it but for purists this is of course no problem.

Features:

What does this rucksack also offer? In the top section there are loops where other material gear can be held in place, two elastic side pockets can be adjusted with a strap, adjustable length walking stick holders are also a feature as also the obligatory carrying grip at the top.

Summary:

A super rucksack for day tours with little baggage. Most of all the carrying comfort, ventilation and low weight all speak for Tatonka Skill 30. 100 Euro is a fair price. If you like a lot of pockets or you want to carry bulky objects, then this model is not for you“.
