The “Top Trails of Germany” association, which is supported by Tatonka, offers on its website an overview over 16 beautiful paths for every taste. Whether you are a pleasure walker, a speed hiker or prefer long-distance hiking – you will certainly find something that suits you. We introduce the nicest trails.
The Weserbergland-Weg spreads from Hannoversch Münden to Porta Westfalica on 225 kilometers (139 mile) and 13 single stages. It is characterized by unadulterated spectacles of nature and eventful culture and offers stunning highlights like hill moors and pastoral forests as well as historical significant places. From the beginning of the Weser until its outfall the route crosses the states Lower Saxony, North Rhine Westfalia and Hesse and thus covers the whole holiday region Weser Uplands. Whether the visitor’s mine Kleinenbremen, one of the most important testimonials of regional industrial culture, or the Sababurg in the Reinhard forest, where Sleeping Beauty slept for 100 years – the Weserbergland-Weg offers something for everyone.
The ridgeway Erzgebirge-Vogtland
The ridgeway Erzgebirge-Vogtland was dedicated in 2011 and arose from the former Kammerweg, which used to be the longest long-distance path in the German-speaking area. It led along the ridge lines of the Elster Mountains to the Altvater Mountains. Today the trail leads over the highest summits of the Erz Mountains and the Vogtland and runs from Altenberg-Geising to Blankenstein on 289 kilometers (179 miles) and 17 single stages. The route is characterized by its idyllic location and breathtaking flora and fauna. For example, it leads past the Schneckenstein near the Klingen Valley, one of two existing topaz rocks all over the world. The ridgeway Erzgebirge-Vogtland combines the natural areas Franconia, Thuringia, Bohemia and Saxony and offers hiking fun for the whole family.
The trail Albsteig
The Albsteig, which is also known as Schwäbischer-Alb-Nordrandweg, is one of the classics amongst Germany’s long-distance trails. As the main trail no.1 of the Swabina Alpinist association it is in use for more than 100 years and in 2009 it was awarded with the quality seal “Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland”. There are quite a few hiking enthusiasts who say that it is one of the most beautiful trails in Europe. The Albsteig runs from Tuttlingen to Donauwörth on 350 kilometers (217 miles) and natural pathways along the Swabian Mountains. To manage its 15 single stages you need a good physical condition but will be rewarded with great panoramic views on the Albvorland.
