The Bavarian Forest is one of the most frequented skiing regions in Germany – and for a reason Together with the Bohemian Forest, it forms one of the biggest connected forestlands in Germany. A wide variety of landscapes stretches up to the altitude of 1,100 meters: from a national park to three or four meters of deep snow, to the smallest vineyard near Regensburg in Bavaria: there is nothing you won’t find here. Due to the constant snowfall in winter and the impressive vastness of the landscape, the Bavarian Forest is a real paradise for cross-country skiers offering 2,000 km of runs. Arberland
The "Bretterschachten" center for cross-country skiing in the Arber region convinces with guaranteed snow and is therefore one of the most prominent centers of the Bavarian Forest. The cross-country ski tracks there are extensive and perfectly suited for the classic as well as for the skating style. An insider's tip is the "Hohenzollernloipe" track with the main access in "Bayerisch Häusl". Tuesdays and Thursdays they also provide floodlight.
 
St. Englmar
The center for cross-country skiing in St. Englmar offers well-groomed tracks for all demands. You can enjoy the scenic atmosphere from the tracks in the valley, whereas the mountain and high tracks up to 150 m represent a real challenge for ambitious outdoor fans. The Hirschenstein-track offers picturesque impressions and can be extended near "Ödwies" after 15 km.

Here, experienced cross-country skiers with classic style can find a 14 km-long challenging track. A downhill run as well as intense climbs are not to be underestimated and should only be tried with enough stamina.
