A backpack with a volume of 50 liters swallows a lot of luggage and equipment. Depending on the other features – in particular which carrying system is “installed” – a 50-liter backpack is suitable for different activities and undertakings.
A 50-liter trekking backpack such as our Yukon 50+10 or Yukon 50+10 Women has a high-performance carrying system that is designed for a pack weight of up to 25 kilograms. You can adjust it to your own back length to take the strain off your shoulders and spine. The rucksack is suitable for one to two-week trekking tours – in addition to your functional clothing, you can carry a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, stove and food in it.
A trekking backpack with 50 liters is also highly recommended for backpacking trips where you sometimes have to walk longer distances.
Choose a large touring backpack like our Pyrox 45+10 for multi-day hut tours. It is an ideal companion for crossing the Alps, for example. Its carrying system is lighter and more flexible than the carrying system of a trekking backpack, and the pack is narrower and shorter so that you can move around better on demanding hiking passages. The carrying system is designed for a weight of up to approx. 15 kilograms; as you stop at huts and stay overnight, you don’t need a tent, a sleeping mat or full rations. A touring backpack with 50 liters can also be adjusted to your own back length.
A 50-liter touring backpack can also be used as a lightweight travel backpack, for example for weekend trips or Interrail tours.
We show you how to optimally adjust trekking and touring backpacks in our backpack tips.
As the name suggests, 50-liter travel backpacks are designed for uncomplicated travel. They have a compact, more rectangular shape and travel-friendly features, such as a large opening, compression straps in the main compartment to secure your luggage and a coverable carrying system that you can use when traveling by plane. Our Great Escape 50+10 also has a detachable front backpack that you can use separately as a daypack.
Whether trekking, touring or travel backpacks, they all have to be robust and durable – after all, a large backpack should serve you well for many years. We use hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant PU-coated polyamide and polyester fabrics, while the base material of our trekking backpacks is made of particularly robust Cordura. All fabrics are treated with a dirt and water-repellent, PFAS-free impregnation.
