Trekking backpacks for men are large-volume backpacks with a volume of approx. 50-90 liters and a carrying system designed for loads between 15 and 25 kilograms – or even more. They are particularly suitable for multi-day tours with a tent and wilderness treks with a lot of luggage, and can also be used as travel backpacks.
The size of your trekking backpack depends first of all on what you plan to do with it, or more precisely, what equipment you want to take with you. A trekking backpack for men with a volume of 50 or 60 liters is suitable for tours on which you will be carrying a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, tent, functional clothing and full meals. Depending on your body and back length, a trekking backpack with a volume of 70 liters may also be the right choice – see below. A trekking backpack with a volume of 80 liters or more is intended for winter trekking or expeditions where you take a lot of equipment with you.
You carry a lot of weight in a trekking backpack. That’s why it has an efficient carrying system that transfers the main part of the load from the shoulders to the pelvis to relieve the spine and back. It is characterized by a pronounced, ergonomically shaped back padding with internal reinforcements and a large, multi-layer hip belt. The hip belt is the central element for weight transfer. In order for it to fulfill this task optimally, the hip fins should ideally sit in the middle of the hip bones.
However, as people not only have different sizes, but also different back lengths, this is not automatically the case. This is why the carrying systems of trekking backpacks can be adjusted. This allows the hip belt to be positioned in the right place and ensures optimum load transfer to the pelvic area. The range of variation depends on the volume of the backpack, as the larger the backpack, the longer the pack sack. Therefore, a backpack with a larger volume will generally fit very tall people perfectly, while smaller people will tend to choose a backpack with a smaller volume so that it fits perfectly.
In our backpack tips, we show you how to adjust your backpack to fit your back length perfectly.
Tatonka offers two different carrying systems for medium to very heavy loads.
The size-adjustable V2 carrying system of our proven Yukon trekking backpacks is designed for loads up to 25 kg. A combination of aluminum and GRP rods ensures an excellent ratio of efficiency and flexibility in load transfer.
The size-adjustable X1 carrying system of our Yukon X1 backpacks has been specially developed for loads over 25 kg. Special attention was paid to ergonomics and adjustability. Hard-wearing materials, multi-layer structures and reinforcements in the right places make the system stable and durable.
Our trekking backpacks are divided into a lid compartment, main compartment and base compartment, plus external pockets and gear loops to store your equipment in a practical way. Compression straps are used to secure the luggage in the backpack. A large front opening provides quick access to the equipment in the main compartment on tour.
Tatonka trekking rucksacks are made from tear-resistant polyester and polyamide fabrics that are waterproof thanks to a multiple polyurethane coating on the inside of the fabric. All processed fabrics are impregnated to repel dirt and water; this impregnation is PFC/PFAS-free. Please note, however, that although the fabrics are waterproof, water can penetrate the seams of the backpack. For this reason, Tatonka trekking backpacks are equipped with a rain cover.

Tatonka backpacks are produced fairly in our own SA8000-certified production facilities. You can also see the high social standards for yourself through our Open Factory program: every Friday you can visit our Mountech Co. Ltd. factory in Ho Chi Minh City during ongoing production.
