While on a tour or camping trip, your tent can get damaged in bad weather. Older tents, in particular, are more prone to breaking. While on the go, you can repair leaks, small tears, and holes so your tent remains usable. You can also easily fix broken tent poles. You should carry a small repair kit with you for these types of damage. After your vacation, we at Tatonka recommend having your tent professionally inspected and restored.
Water in the tent? Here’s how to fix leaks while on the trail
If you find leaks along a seam in the outer tent or the floor panel, seal the tent fabric with seam sealer. Use a seam sealer that is compatible with your tent material and apply it according to the instructions:
a) PU-coated tents: e.g., Seam Grip seam sealer by McNett
b) Silicone-coated tents: e.g., SilNet seam sealer by McNett
If these measures do not resolve the issue, send the tent to our repair service after your trip.
How to repair a tear in your tent flysheet while on a trip
Simply tape the tear on both the inside and outside of the tent fabric using duct tape, adhesive bandages, or athletic tape.
Contact our repair service after your trip. We can professionally sew the tear and reseal the seams of the tent fabric. We recommend that you do not sew the tent fabric yourself, as this will damage the material’s coating.
How to fix a broken tent pole
Usually, only one section of the pole breaks. Slide a repair sleeve over the broken section.
Send the tent poles to our repair service after your trip. We can either replace the broken section, or you’ll receive a new tent pole that fits your tent perfectly.
