In addition to their equipment details, Tatonka backpacks differ in terms of their back system and volume. How large the capacity of a rucksack should be depends primarily on the planned activities. Daypacks are perfect for a trip to the lake or a stroll around town. Daypacks usually have a capacity of between 10 and 30 liters and often have a laptop compartment as well as several storage compartments and pockets.
Bike backpacks are the perfect companion for a trip into the countryside on a bike. The chest and waist straps ensure a secure fit and the ventilation channels keep your back ventilated. Like daypacks, bike backpacks have a capacity of between 10 and 30 liters.
Hiking or touring rucksacks are ideal for hiking and hut tours. There are suitable models from 20 to 45 liters. The special feature of hiking backpacks is their ventilated back system, which keeps your back dry on sweaty tours. The lightweight and flexible back system of touring backpacks can be adjusted to your own back length to ensure optimum load distribution.
Trekking backpacks with a sophisticated back system are required for longer tours with food and a tent. They have a high volume (from 50 liters), are designed for heavy loads and, when correctly adjusted, transfer part of the load from the shoulders to the hips. The back system of a trekking backpack can therefore be individually adjusted to your own back length.
Backpacks for traveling also have a higher volume. The carrying system can be covered and thus remains protected during transportation by plane or bus. Backpacks for hand luggage also either have a coverable carrying system or the backpack shoulder straps can be removed or stowed in an extra pocket.
Some backpack types include special women’s backpacks. At Tatonka, these backpacks can be recognized by the printed flower. The shoulder straps and back length are adapted to the female body and, compared to the unisex models, they have a smaller volume.
All our backpacks are made from tear-resistant polyester or polyamide fabrics that are waterproof thanks to a multiple polyurethane coating on the inside of the fabric. The fabrics are also impregnated to repel dirt and water; this impregnation is PFC/PFAS-free. Please note, however, that although the fabrics are waterproof, water can penetrate the seams of the backpack. For this reason, Tatonka hiking, touring and trekking backpacks are equipped with a rain cover. If a backpack does not have an integrated rain cover, these are available as backpack accessories in all sizes.
